As part of the German hospital restructuring act (KHSG), a new regulation concerning hospital funding became effective. From 2016 onwards, the contracting parties are supposed to bargain on a deduction on the case rate of additional cases in inpatient care. This deduction is supposed to reflect the share of fix costs of an additional case in inpatient care, which will not be reimbursed. The RWI, in collaboration with the chair of medicine management of the University of Duisburg?Essen, has already written a report on this issue in 2016. As the report from 2016, the current report aims at determining the share of fix costs of additional cases in inpatient care applying multivariate regression models. Compared to the previous report, a broader and updated data base is used, and additional analyses are conducted.
