Prof. Dr. Jörg Peters

Jörg Peters is a specialist for energy and environmental policies in developing countries and the evaluation of development interventions. Jörg is heading the research group “Climate Change in Developing Countries” at RWI and Professor at University of Passau. His research focus is on environmental and development economics as well as evaluation methodologies.

In this context, Jörg leads a set of research projects that study rural markets for improved technologies and infrastructure interventions using experimental and quasi-experimental methods. He furthermore led an international consortium that was appointed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to evaluate development activities in the energy sector in four countries spanning Africa and Asia. In addition, he designed the methodology and supervised the survey implementation of various evaluation studies in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Indonesia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia. Jörg has advised several international organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, 3ie, FMO, MCC, and GIZ. He is research associate at the Environment for Development network at the University of Gothenburg and the Sustainable Energy Transitions Initiative (SETI) at Duke University.

Jörg studied economics and statistics in Cologne and Paris and holds a PhD from Ruhr-University Bochum. His research findings have been published in leading journals, for example Journal of Health Economics, Energy Journal, and the World Bank Economic Review.
