Dr. Cara Ebert

Cara Ebert is a researcher at RWI since February 2019 and the deputy head of RWI’s Berlin Office. Cara studied Economics at the Humboldt University of Berlin, the University of California Santa Barbara, and the University of Amsterdam and completed her PhD in Economics at the University of Göttingen (summa cum laude). For her PhD dissertation Cara was awarded the Young Researcher Award of the German Economic Association’s Research Group on Development Economics and the KfW Development Bank.

Cara studies questions of health, gender and labor at the household level in low-income countries. She investigates interventions to promote human capital and skill development during early childhood and among youths. Her research further concerns topics of gender discrimination, specifically, son preferences and gender-based violence. Much of her work is based on primary data collected in India, Kenya, and Uganda.

Cara is also a Research Affiliate at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics and a fellow of the Joachim Herz Foundation.
