Lectures and seminars

To support the development of the next generation of young scientists, the RWI offers a range of opportunities for early-stage researchers to broaden and deepen their knowledge.

Upon prior notice, external guests are welcome to participate in RWI lectures and seminars ( ).

Scientific exchange: seminars/lectures

RWI Research Seminar

Researchers from universities and other research institutes present their research projects to the RWI in the research seminar series, where ideas and results are exchanged. Members of the RWI have the opportunity to learn from internationally-renowned researchers. On a rotational basis, at the universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen, selected talks are also held within the framework of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics seminar series (RGS Econ), a graduate school founded by the RWI and the three universities. Practitioners are also invited to encourage the practical application of established methods and to identify new research topics.

RWI Brown Bag Seminar

RWI’s internal Brown Bag Seminar offers the possibility to present research projects at an early stage (work in progress) and to discuss it with colleagues.

RWI Therapy Seminar

The so-called “Therapy Seminar” is a forum for the RWI’s doctoral students as well as post-docs to present and discuss research proposals. Twice a year, 15 to 20 doctoral students and post-docs retreat for a two-day closed conference, the “Therapy Seminar Hike”, which is held at different locations in the region. The social program includes a hiking tour by tradition.

Lectures of the RGS Econ

With permission, the RWI’s doctoral students can participate in the RGS Econ’s lectures administered by professors from the universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen.

Soft-skill training

In cooperation with the RGS Econ and other graduate schools in NRW, the RWI offers courses on soft skills on a regular basis, such as presentation techniques, public relations, time and project management, etc.
